Vaulta batteries weather the storm on Moreton Island

ARM Hub tenant, Vaulta, proves its mettle ...

Tech from Queensland battery company Vaulta was put to the test during a once-in-a-generation storm and passed with flying colours.

Vaulta, an ARM Hub tenant and Member,  installed a fleet of its batteries at Castaways, a family-run accommodation venue at Bulwer, Moreton Island.

Moreton Island (Mulgumpin) sits about 58 kilometres northeast of Brisbane in Moreton Bay.

When Cyclone Alfred made landfall, Moreton Island bore the brunt of the impact as it shielded Brisbane from the worst of the storm.

The cyclone caused approximately $1.2 billion in damage to the region.

CEO and Founder Dominic Spooner said the fleet was installed (as part of a partnership with Powertech and Castaways) just three weeks before Cyclone Alfred hit.

“With the system still in its early post-installation stage, the news of the cyclone emerged,” Dominic said.

“We acted quickl, carrying out additional checks and preparing the system for extreme conditions. We did this via our remote monitoring capability. It was a great example of why we’ve invested heavily in remote monitoring and the ability to make changes anywhere in the world with an internet connection.”

“In the week leading up to the storm, we began remote monitoring to track performance and ensure the batteries were operating reliably.

“When a family-owned business places their trust in us, we know it goes beyond the contract. It’s about honouring that trust and making sure their investment is protected.”

While residents were evacuated as high winds and heavy rainfall lashed the island, the lights at Castaways remained on.

Despite being exposed to the elements, Vaulta’s battery fleet remained undamaged and continued supplying power throughout the storm.

For Castaways and Powertech, the performance was a clear demonstration of the durability and reliability of Vaulta’s systems.

The installation partners praised the outcome, and Castaways later declared Vaulta “a worthy investment”.

For Dominic, the success highlights Vaulta’s engineering capabilities and the strength of its partnerships.

“This project showcased our ability to deliver solutions that work when it matters most. It reinforces our position in the market as a trusted supplier of robust energy systems.”

Vaulta credits part of this achievement to its tenancy at the ARM Hub, where it has been based for nearly two years. Access to the ARM Hub’s facilities, resources and support network helped them meet the tight installation timeframe.

“The ARM Hub has played a key role in this success. It’s been a major step up from our previous facility; from delivery trucks and equipment to on-site support, fulfilling orders on time would have been impossible without this space,” said Dominic.
